Risk Assessing the introduction of in cab video cameras
I was recently asked to risk assess the introduction of in cab video cameras to site vehicles including heavy equipment. The purpose of the cameras is to capture images of accidents and near hits that may occur. These images can be used to assist safety personnel and management with incident investigations. The ultimate goal being prevention of another accident or a miss becoming a hit.
I gathered together, legal, safety, maintenance and supervisors to consider such things as the legal implications, chain of custody for evidence (USB) and the impact on the general workforce.
When the Mine Manager reviewed the completed assessment, he was impressed with the detail and happy that a number of risks that he did not initially consider were captured and addressed.
